School Readiness

Even before children attend kindergarten, they benefit from experiences that help prepare them for school and successfully overcome this challenge.

The Florida State Legislature recognized this need when it passed the School Readiness Act to help children from low-income families get the support they need from the Local Government to succeed in school.

While we help children prepare for school, the program provides child care so that parents can work or attend a training or educational program.

The program is funded primarily by a block grant from the Federal Fund for Child Care and Development. DEL administers the program at the State level successfully.

Families eligible for the State of Florida School Readiness Program may apply for financial assistance for early care and education services. Services vary based on the needs of families and may include extended day care, after-school care, or care for school-age children.
